October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Statistically, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men will experience severe intimate partner violence in their lifetime. On average, a female domestic violence victim will attempt to leave an abusive relationship seven times before she is successful. This is an issue that impacts many people, including the children, friends and families of victims. Liberty Project will be hosting a card-writing event for domestic violence victims at lunchtime October 21, 2019 through October 23, 2019. If you have time, please come to the 6th floor lounge and make a card. We will be delivering the cards to domestic violence shelter(s) around the valley. We know this can be a sensitive subject for many people, but we believe it is important to support domestic violence survivors and encourage their healing. If you are unsure of what to say, we will have a list of suggested messages at the table for inspiration. Please remember to be empathetic and appropriate in your messages. We want to commend survivors for seeking help, prioritizing themselves and their safety, etc. We hope that you decide to offer a small encouragement for a person who finds themselves in a domestic violence shelter!
