THIS AFTERNOON- PRO BONO OPPORTUNITY- Set Aside Clinic

SET ASIDE CLINIC PRO BONO OPPORTUNITY!! We still have a couple of spots left!

WHEN: Tuesday, October 22, 2019 from 4:00PM-7:00PM

WHERE: Burton Barr Library at 1221 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004

HOW: E-mail nationallawyersguild.asu@gmail.com to state your interest in attending. Because there are often more volunteers than there are spots in the clinic, you will be entered into a lottery. Those who receive a spot in the clinic will receive detailed information regarding their attendance.

What is Set-Aside?

Arizona does not expunge (so, previously convicted felons cannot “clear their records”). Instead, one may seek to “set-aside” his or her conviction. Simply put, a set-aside is a demarcation on the accused’s record that indicates that he/ she has been compliant with his/ her probation and has made a good-faith effort to rehabilitate into society. A set-aside helps improve the accused’s employment and housing opportunities.

What will I do as a volunteer?

If you attend a set-aside clinic, you will actually be working alongside a client an an attorney from Community Legal Services. You will work together to fill out an application, making sure that the client is eligible, and hopefully, will get to track you case to completion!

Why should I volunteer?

Other than being a good person, set-aside clinics are GREAT for resumes (especially for 1Ls). They allow you to get out of the classroom, to network with local attorneys, and count as pro bono hours!
